Every year the holidays roll around, and you tell yourself this year you won’t overspend on gift shopping. But then, every year without fail, you overspend on gift shopping…if this is you, let’s decide today that this year will be different, okay?
I know it’s hard to control yourself once you get into the spirit of the season, but your bank account will thank you for your restraint later. So, let’s buckle down early this year and hone these five tips to help yourself stay on budget for the holidays!
1. Start saving early.
Do you already know that you want to splurge on a special gift this year? Great. Then start saving as soon as possible. The sooner you start, the better!
2. Set limits for yourself.
Make a list of everyone important in your life, and then go down that list and write a price limit next to everyone’s name. It doesn’t matter how you assign price limits to which people. All that matters is that you limit yourself.
3. Don’t leave shopping until the last minute.
Waiting until the last minute to accomplish your holiday shopping is the surest way to end up overspending. Don’t put yourself in that situation, and instead, plan to get all your shopping done early.
4. Think outside of the box.
Who says that you have to spend actual money on a gift this year? Instead, you could give someone the gift of quality time, or you could even create a gift with someone. Remember, it’s the thought that counts, so don’t be afraid to get creative.
5. Keep a close eye on your spending.
You need to know how much you have to spend before you do your holiday shopping, so keep track of your expenses now. Tracking them now will help you better handle your costs in the future and make it easier for you to save up for presents.
Don’t get caught up in the holiday madness this year. Make your budget, and stick to it. You got this!
