Student Loan Forgiveness Paused

Student loan borrowers are waiting indefinitely to see if they’ll receive debt relief under President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness program after a federal judge in Texas struck it down Thursday. The Department of Justice immediately appealed the decision, but that case will have to play out before any cancellation can take place.

“This move on the part of Republican and conservatives is strictly to keep minorities who were saddled with college debt in a state of limbo, unable to move out of the middle class and in some cases punishing them for attempting to get an education…”

Borrowers should follow the Department of Education’s updates on this case and check out the Federal Student Aid website for more information. It could take months before we know whether or not their appeal is successful, but borrowers can also subscribe to receive notifications by email at any time!
